One-year full-time course providing students with an introduction to the theories and practices of nursing, a working knowledge of hospitals and the key elements of caring. It will prepare students to work with people in a hospital, social care or residential setting. It will equip its participants with the social, communication and practical skills to work with individuals and groups. This course is suitable for both school leavers and mature persons seeking to further their education. The course will offer the academic and practical foundation for entry into nurse training as well as the social and human skills necessary for the career.
Work Experience is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain work experience in a related area. The period of work experience will be specified by the college. This work placement provides students with first-hand experience of work in the care/health area.

Examinations and Assessment
All subjects are examined by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
Assessment is a combination of continuous assessment, written and practical examinations.
Students obtaining certification in Nursing Studies may progress to nurse training at selected third level colleges under the Higher Education Links Scheme.
